This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I thought it was quite amazing how differently the students responded to the lesson between the two videos, all because of how the teacher taught and his attitude. I consider myself a pretty high energy teacher that can engage the students pretty well. I can make them laugh when I see that they're starting to get bored or I can be strict/stern if some students start to get disruptive. However, I have come across certain teachers who are high energy and that's all they are. The students get bored of the constant loud voice or big gestures that it loses its effect. I've also come across teachers who are very well liked by the students but their teaching isn't effective because they themselves don't really understand what they're teaching.
Lesson structure is important and different methods can be used depending on what the lesson is to cover, but like the video depicted, I think teachers have the greatest effect on whether or not the students engage and learn.
