This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Overall I learned that the grammatical system and structure of language is complex and specific. There are many exceptions to grammatical rules which I perceive would be difficult to teach explicitly, and must simply be memorized through practice/regular usage. parts of speech explain how words are used in a sentence. The main parts of speech include nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns and prepositions/conjunctions. The term 'gerund'was particularly new to me- similar to a present participle, and easily recognizable with the -ing ending, but functions as a noun. There are two tenses in English ? past and present.
The past tense in English is used:to talk about the past to talk about hypotheses ,things that are imagined rather than true for politeness.
There are four past tense forms in English
Past simple for actions starting and ending in the past. Past continuous for actions starting in the past and continuing to the present. Past perfect for actions that started and ended in the past before another action that is also in the past. Past perfect continuous for actions that were going on in the past up until another action in the past happened.
