Speaking and writing make up the productive skills needed to communicate. Both accuracy and fluency are equally important when learning a language. It is important to encourage students to interact and speak during the lesson. In order to ensure this happens, the teacher must create a comfortable atmosphere, make activities meaningful, and cover topics that will motivate them. Handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation make up the writing skills. Both speaking and writing skills should be handled with great care by the teacher. From this unit, I learned not to favor one skill over the other as they both play an integral part in learning a language. A learner might be a visual learner as opposed to an auditory learner, but it is important to try encourage them to give listening a try.
