Course books and authentic materials have their pros and cons within the class room. Students find authentic materials more interesting than course books, and authentic materials can often provide motivation and confidence when the students have success in understanding the material. However, authentic materials may not be able to be catered to each student level. Course books provide a tried and tested syllabus, allowing students to see progression and giving the teacher extra resources for planning lessons. However, overuse can make the lessons boring for students. A mix of these materials can keep your class engaged.
