This unit covered the importance of learning to properly pronounce words and to make the various sounds that are created in reading English words. The video lesson demonstrated some techniques that are very useful in teaching the phonetics and pronunciation. This subject is often overlooked and in fact can be a good break from the usual English lessons in grammar and vocabulary. The use of phonemic symbols demonstrates that English words are not always pronounced in the way they appear. Some words can be spelled the same and pronounced differently while some words are spelled differently but pronounced the same. The phonemic symbols standardize the pronunciation of words.
