This unit focuses on course books and materials used by teachers for an EFL classroom. The course books provides a graded breakdown of the syllabus generally suitable for a particular level of students. If the teacher has the option of choosing the course book to be taught, they must consider factors such as price, availability, design, syllabus, supported materials etc. I learnt various advantages of disadvantages of relying solely on the course book. Materials can be divided into two groups: authentic materials and created materials. Using authentic materials motivates and creates interest of students and make them feel confident. Created materials are used to supplement course book materials and can be designed to meet students particular needs. A good EFl teacher should balance out usage of course book materials and supplementing created material where they feel necessary.
