Various methodologies and approaches toward structuring a language learning curriculum are presented in Unit Three. There is no one best approach as each is valuable on differing occasions and with differing levels of English skills the learner may possess. The Engage, Study and Activate approach is suggested by the authors and endorsed by the ITTT moderators. Encouragement of thought and speech in English is elicited in the encouragement stage through various visual, auditory and social stimuli. The grammatical structures are presented in the study stage and pronunciation, spelling and syntax are stressed as well as vocabulary. The activation phase promotes use of newly gained skills coupled with prior knowledge and promoted in a stress free non threatening social setting.
