This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This Unit dealt with Productive skills which are writing and speaking. It covered the reasons for communicating and stressed that if students are not enticed by the topics they will fail to participate.
This unit also taught the difference between accuracy activities, which is part of the study phase and fluency activities which is mainly used in the active phase.
It also touched on writing as a means of communication and listed spelling, punctuation and handwriting as the main skills of writing.
I learnt the different subcategories of accuracy based activities and what would most likely fall within that category i.e
1. controlled activities, which would included drilling that is repeated 3 times as a group then 3 more times by students (individually/randomly) of your choice. There is also prompting which is preplanned and can be carried out by question and answer type activities.
2. For fluency based activities role play, debates and other communication games can be used.
