Receptive skills are so important. They are the building blocks to productive skills and overall fluency. If a learner cannot understand what is being said to them or what it is they are reading, then they will be unable to come up with a thought out response that makes sense in the conversation or task at hand. Because we are constantly being bombarded by sights and sounds, the receptive skills develop naturally. But it is important to ensure that the receptive skills naturally developing, are aided and guided so that they are strong, enabling a learner to understand most things they may come across.
