Phonetic script is definitely difficult, but the rules of stressing certain words and syllabus was very helpful. We talk in a rise and fall intonation from sentences to simple one-word-replies - our pitch rises then drops at the end, typically lower than the pitch we started at. The falling intonation indicates we have finished what we want to say, be that the sentence or concluding with a word or a phrase to emphasize that nothing else needs to be said after that. When we want a response, we conclude with a rising intonation, although we could follow that with another phrase or sentence to change the tone of the conversation.
