Unit 14 discusses course material and lesson materials. While course books are excellent in that it is tested and all prepared, the structure of it is likely not tailored to a teacher's specific class needs. Course books will require the teacher to make changes and adaptations, which is not necessarily a bad thing because it will provide a great framework to start with. It is important to know the difference between authentic and created materials because they both serve different purposes and one may be more effective than the other in teaching a particular lesson. Ovsrall, in regards to materials, it is essential that the teacher understand the materials' purpose and know how to adapt them to the needs and level of the students.
