In this unit, we talked about productive skills, speaking and writing. They are both used to communicate. I also learned about the difference between accuracy and fluency activities. Accuracy activities are part of the study phase and concentrate on producing correct language. And fluency activities are part of the activate phase and allow students to experiment and be creative with language. They are both equally important.
They are different types of speaking activities in class: controlled, guided and creative.
I have also been given examples of different techniques to use to encourage interaction and get students to speak. There were also guidelines for a free/creative speaking activity. What to do before, during and after the activity is finished.
We also learned about writing skills. The importance of teaching students handwriting, spelling and punctuation.
This unit also talked about games in the classroom and how important it is to use them as it gets students involved. It should be used as an integral part of our lessons.
