This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This module opened me up to the different ways in which students could be grouped and the seating arrangements made for their various activities. I have experienced these configurations as a student but it is interesting to view them from the perspective of a teacher and their classroom management challenges. I always thought that a teacher?s personalty is foremost in assessing his/her suitability for a teacher but I have learnt that we need not be limited by our inherent character traits: different ways of managing the classroom are always open to the teacher. Some of the methods, like maintaining eye contact seem obvious but they are not as intuitive to practice as they appear. I think there is a very valuable checklist that should be consulted from time to time to ensure that the foundations for good rapport with students are laid. Basically, simple straightforward communication and language are stressed in this module and I agree that such methods cater to all students: enabling the weaker students to follow without alienating the stronger students.
