This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered different groups of students that a teacher might come in contact with, the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of group group, along with teaching strategies. I thought it was useful to consider the different teaching strategies used with each kind of group, because at first I was only used to teaching classes, so when I had to teach individual students it was a very big adjustment. I realized I hadn't had much practice asking questions to students or much experience figuring out activities to engage individual students. I want to try some of the example activities given such as doing horoscopes or quizzes, because I think my students would enjoy those. I also don't teach young students, but I thought the methods given for encouraging young students was really useful. I especially liked the idea that teachers should imitate parents techniques for encouraging children who are just beginning to speak by giving them lots of positive reinforcement. I feel more confident about teaching different groups after going through this unit.
