This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
There are five main conditionals are: zero, first, second, third, and mixed. These are sentences containing a main clause, and an 'if'(or when) clause. The conditionals are categorized depending on how they are used. For example, a zero conditional is used to express actions and facts that are irrefutable, but third conditionals are used to express hypothetical past action with an impossible consequence. Students will find conditionals confusing because the past tense is used when referring to the future, in the second conditional. There are many activities that can be used in the classroom to enhance students understanding of how conditionals function. These activities can be adapted to any age of students, but this is not something to be taught in the beginner classes. Reported speech is also something that should be taught to more advanced students, and should be taught slowly. Reported speech is difficult for students because of backshifting, where events and things shift backwards in time and physical position: the present becomes the past.
