English students can fall into a number of categories each with varying degrees of motivation. When teaching children and adults alike it is important to keep the class varied and interesting- a boring class will stifle motivation. Children may not be as motivated as adult learners but have the advantage of catching on to material quicker. Children have shorter attention spans so activities need to be short and varied; Boredom will inevitably lead to behavioral problems-so keeping it interesting is important for the younger learner. Business learners reasons for taking english courses are varied and a needs analysis is particularly important in this group- explain the rationale for this needs analysis and make lesson focusing more so on overlapping group needs while simultaneously trying to consider individual needs. Attendance with these learners may be sporadic and homework may be difficult for these learners as they are juggling the demands of work and the course- be prepared to cover smaller quantities of material as a result.
