This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I learned that authentic materials are not designed for ESL students and are not grated for levels. For this reason, it is important to select material carefully and be sure it is suitable for their level. Authentic materials, nevertheless, are more interesting and motivating and consequently can increase students confidence when understood. In the other hand, created materials are suitable for ESL students and are graded by level. Examples of created materials are: crosswords, word search puzzles, flash cards, gap fill activities, role play cards, etc. It is important to emphasize that both authentic materials and created materials can supplement materials form a course book.
I also learnt that course books consist of teacher and students book, workbook, CD and/or DVD, etc. In addition, there are commonly used course books for both British and American English. In this unit we studied the advantages and disatvantages of course books and the best use of them. We shouldn't use only the course book for the whole lesson, teachers should do an effort to keep students interested and motivated when planning lessons, while having in mind that we can supplement them, adapt them or even replace them.
