The final unit ? Evaluation and Testing ? is about evaluating students? levels and progress. There are a number of ways to assess a student?s language level: tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. Tutorials take place with the whole group or individuals. It?s useful to discuss how well the students performed the task, whether there are any problems. As to Evaluation by the students, it can be rather useful to ask students to evaluate their course by means of questionnaire or guided discussion. The last form of assessment is quite diverse. It includes various kinds of tests on different teacher?s aims. For example, placement tests are designed to enable teachers to place new students into the correct class according to their language ability. Progress test should be used periodically to gauge what language has been remembered and acquired and what language has been forgotten. Diagnostic test are given at the start of the course to see what the students already know, and practice test should prepare for external examination.
