The Productive Skills are reading and writing (including games) are used for communication. Writing requires perhaps more skill, but reading requires more fluency, since there is less time to think and plan an answer. When conducting speaking activities in the classroom, make use of 3x3 drilling, questions and answers, guided role-play, free role-play, discussions, debates, simulations and communication games. Try to overcome students inhibitions and make them feel comfortable. Use different combinations of student interactions, and if possible, allow them time to think about what they're going to say, starting with topics such as the weather, or something related to their own interests. When teaching writing, pay a little more attention to students who use something different than the Roman Alphabet in the home language. Try to help them with pronunciation and spelling, as English is not very systematic in either of these areas. Also allow time for creative writing activities and games to increase student enjoyment of class time.
