Lesson Planning is a controversial topic. Some suggest that planning creates a situation where the lesson becomes too teacher-centred, fixed and inflexible. For inexperienced or new teachers, however, a lesson plan can be a useful way to avoid having questions raised with which the teacher is less able to provide immediate responses. It can save classroom embarrassment for those new to the classroom setting. The Unit mentions three benefits from lesson planning: a record of the particular lesson; providing the teacher with what is to be expected of or from the students from the lesson; and something to refer to during the conduct of the lesson. Information is also provided on how to create a lesson plan and what should be included in it, and ways to be prepared for class. Thirteen points which a good lesson plan should include are shown, including the learner objectives, procedure and phase, timing, etc. A detailed example of a lesson plan on consolidation of animal vocabulary and how to use the \"can\" and \"can't\" properly in the context of animals. Information is also provided on how to monitor lessons, how to plan a sequence of lessons, and further lesson planning with the present perfect simple.
