This unit presented 'teaching productive skills' which are speaking and writing as well as using games in teaching. Speaking includes accuracy and fluency activities. Accuracy activities are focused on accurate production of language while fluency activities are focused on effectiveness and flow in usage of language. There are different types of speaking activities: controlled, guided and creative communication activities. For controlled and guided activities, language and output are controlled by the teacher but in creative communication, students are focused on fluency and output is controlled by the student. The unit also presented some tips to encouraging students to speak in the classroom, techniques to encourage interaction between students and with the teacher as well as guidelines for conducting a free/creative speaking activity int eh classroom.
Lastly the unit presented writing skills including handwriting, spelling, punctuation and creative writing as well as how to successfully incorporate games in the classroom.
