This unit discusses the reasons and methods for, and targets of the different types and styles of testing and evaluating the students. It also gives quite a few examples of the institutions around the world and some of their established tests that have been created to encourage a more universal evaluation system for a more effectively making English as useful as possible to as many people as possible. The information that had the most impact on me was the outlining of the different types of tests and their purposes in a class. From an diagnostic or placement test that is designed to put the student in the proper level, or help prepare material that best suits the needs of your students, to regular diagnostic and evaluation tests to stay in tune with the student's needs as well as your own performance and the material you're providing to them. Finally using practice tests to help the students prepare for external exams that could effect future job placement or entry into Universities, or in Korea, even middle and high schools.
