Unit 14 gives teachers options of course materials to use in the classroom, i.e. course books, authentic materials, and created ones. Teachers must be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of each material type. Authentic and created materials can be tailored towards students' language skills to begin with and interests. Therefore, those materials can be more appealing to students and boost their confidence when they are able to understand the language within the texts and improve on areas they previously need to work on. On the other hand, course books are also good sources for the class as they provide a detailed and tested syllabus as well as a balanced mixing of all four English areas (writing, speaking, listening, and reading). However, teachers must not use course books solely and excessively as they may not be suitable for students' English level, interests, and specific needs. Teachers need to be creative and use a variety of course materials in order to keep the courses interesting and improve on areas students are not good at.
