I learnt that it is quite intense to always think of the usages of each tense and it is quite difficult to remember and relate to the exceptions. But when one learns the different forms and their makeup then sentences can be broken down more easily. It is also ideal to look at the typical errors students make with tenses. Usually in these situations, teachers can plan ahead to counter these general errors made and different teaching methods and games can direct students to understand better. Role play and students getting to know students is a great way for teachers to teach the different forms.
