This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit presented the many different types of English learners that a teacher may work with - beginners, children, individual students, business people, and monolingual and multilingual classes. Beginners can be both young and adult learners, and can be absolute beginners (with no prior exposure to English), false beginners (having had some previous exposure from which they have not retained much language) and beginners whose native language does not use the Roman alphabet. As the unit pointed out, the methods and resources used, and the way in which the teacher conducts themselves in lessons, must be adapted to suit each individual group, as they will have very different needs and motivations for learning English. Asking students, primarily business people and individual students, to complete a \"needs analysis\" at the beginning of the course is an important tool that the teachers should utilise, as the information garnered from the analysis can indicate an appropriate pace and content for the course.
