Tests are a tool for measuring a student's progress throughout a class. They vary in size and scope but all have the same purpose, that is, to see what has been retained throughout the teaching period, to weed out errors and create an archivable feedback document to consult and grow from. Tests are mirrors to the student and teacher, reflecting back what we ourselves see and don't see, perhaps you dot your \"i's\" and cross your \"t's\", yet you fail to put the period at the end of every sentence.
Small errors and bad habits leap the off the page to both students and teachers vying for the attention of both parties to be corrected. It is here where tests never outshine other methods measure and that is why it tests are important for all involved.
