This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit encompasses productive skills, which comprises of speaking and writing. As said before, all skills are equally important. Writing can be more difficult to master due to it being repetition based. For example if one were to learn traditional Chinese characters, one would need to know the stroke order which takes a huge amount of time and practice as opposed to just learning the word character. Speaking activities can be grouped as controlled and guided, and fluency based activities where the students use what they have learned. In the classroom one may encounter barriers for students to speak, there are techniques to remedy this situation such as group and pair work, which encourages speaking in a relaxed environment without feelings of intimidation. Writing skills are more encompassing, as the students have to deal with spelling, punctuation as well as handwriting techniques. These are all equally important as they determine how well the students writing abilities will be at the end of the day. Games in the classroom are a fun way to teach the students, games can be both competitive and cooperative which encourages teamwork and makes it easier for the students to be more comfortable in the classroom setting. They should be designed for the level of student and shoud try incorporate the different activities of listening, speaking and writing.
