The Engage, Study, Activate approach is an effective way to get students motivated to learn the English language. It allows the teacher a great deal of flexibility to utilize a variety of activities to teach the language point. With this method, the teacher may elicit information from the students to use as the building blocks to inform the lesson going forward, and plan activities whereby students can incorporate the new language point with their existing vocabulary. During the Engage and Activate stages, the teacher should try to avoid making corrections. Instead, the teacher may make note of difficulties arising and address these points during the Study stage. Praise and encouragement is as important as correction, and teachers should take care in giving feedback so as not to dampen students' confidence and willingness to experiment with the language.
