In this unit, we reflect on the correct ways of teaching not only vocabulary and grammar structures, but also language functions. What is interesting in this unit, is that we get to see the reason of why certain vocabulary words are more difficult to teach (for example, the student is Chinese, so the words will be a bit more difficult to grasp for that student than for a German student), we can also see that the way the grammar structures are introduced affect the way the student learns (if, for example, we skip over explaining that spoken and written structures differ, the student can become confused later on), and lastly, we become aware that the functions and appropriacy of the language is just as important as learning new vocabulary and grammar (in which we get the students to understand that different situations call for different functions, such as technical, formal, and informal use of the English language).
