Evaluating and testing is an essential part of the classroom. Beginning with placement or diagnostic testing, which will help you to know at what level your students are at. Which will help you to pick the correct course of teaching materials that are best suited for them. I believe progress tests are equally important to make sure that the students are retaining what is being taught, and if they need help in certain areas. Practice tests are good in preparing for progress test, these tests do not have to be written and could be done verbally in a type of a game, or something similar to keep everyone excited and not worried about taking a test.
Testing and evaluating also gives the student the opportunity to self evaluate.
