Lesson Planning is for preparing a logical sequence to the events that will take place in the lesson. It helps to bring order and purpose in a simple format. Planning lessons helps give the teacher clarity and a guide for when things in the classroom could otherwise become confusing. The Straight Arrow Method used in the ESA method is as follows: Engage, Study, Activate. The Engage phase is to break the ice and elicit responses from students in relation to the lesson at hand. The Study phase gives the students the tools necessary to form the concepts into concrete actions or application. Finally, the Activate phase is where the students apply all their knowledge gathered and put it into practice.
