This unit focused on the importance of reading and listening as receptive skills to teach with and help students engage and learn in the classroom. It's very important to choose reading and listening materials that are not only relevant to the subject and at the appropriate level of learning, but that are interesting to the students. These topics may change, as students like various things, but it's important to try to find something for everyone with which they may connect with and learn well from. This unit also covered the different ways in which we listen and read: scanning, skimming, deduction, etc. These are important techniques we use to find and gather information and is easily applied in the classroom.
