In this unit, receptive skills were convered. The two receptive skills are reading and listening as they are things that we take in information from. Productive skills are writing and speaking as we are producing something.
In this unit, I learnt how to teach students receptive skills. Also, how to make it interesting for them. By using engaging activities at the beginning of the class, whether they find the topic interesting or not, students can hopefully become interested in the topic.
By covering difficult vocabulary and grammar structures before doing the receptive study phase, we can help build students confidence, but it is important tonot cover all the unknown words as students need to be able to read without necessarily knowing all the words within the passage, but be able to get the general meaning.
The lesson examples were really useful as always and I learnt a lot about planning my lesson around getting the students interested and motivated and matching classes to their level.
