The sum of different tests there are for English is astonishing! Personally, I can the great benefit of giving students tutorials in class and evaluations to gather how the students feel about a topic. Placement testing is also pretty important. Putting a student in the right class level is vital. The same goes for progress testing and diagnostic testing. The only kind of testing I have an issue with is the test in which determines a student's overall grade or intelligence (achievement tests). Those kinds of tests seem very limited in accurately gathering information on the students? complete knowledge. After all, if the recorded progression of a class is entirely based on one test at the end of the year, there will be some students who pass with flying colors but actually know very little and other students who have a greater understanding of the language but do poorly.
