This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit reviewed course development. It discussed how the first class of any course might be used to find out students' current level of English so that they can be grouped effectively, and to do a needs-analysis, to find out what skills or language points would most benefit the students. The unit then quickly discussed an example course planning, before launching a lengthy and detailed discussion on how tests can be used, and which types of tests are more useful for which purposes. Although I understand that testing is often required by companies, I would have liked this section to provide more of a critical view towards testing, as standardised testing is known to have quite a few drawbacks as well. It would have been useful to learn (or at least think) more about how to circumvent the pitfalls of standardised testing while still meeting these requirements!
