This unit served as a nice catch-all for grammatical concepts that did not fit well in other units. Modal verbs are incredibly common and as they have a wide range of meaning and usage can be tricky for learners. They can express obligation, possibility, permission (or prohibition) ability or advice and most of the verbs fit into more than one of these categories. Often the difference in usage depends on subtle differences in formality or certainty. Learning about the passive voice was a nice change as I have been taught to shy away from it in formal writing to sound more forceful. However then unit demonstrated the value of the passive voice, as it moves the emphasis from the subject to the object, invaluable when the primary actor is unknown or should remain unsaid.
