This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 8 discusses the two productive skills namely speaking and writing. These two, as reiterated, are of equal importance. Further, both receptive skills (discussed in Unit 7) and productive skills must be integrated to create a holistic approach in learning the language.?As for this unit, productive skills are used for communication purpose. Since communication among individuals are complex and ever changing? EFL teachers must consider some factors as they introduce communicative activity. These are some reasons why people communicate: (1) communicative purpose (2) the want to say something (3) the want to listen to something (4) interest in what is being said. Teachers should anchor his/her communicative activities to the aforementioned reasons and make sure it is present to achieve successful EFL class? Another thing is that accuracy and fluency play a great part in these areas. Accuracy focuses on producing correct language while fluency concentrates on the creative side of the learners. It is more concerned with the effectiveness and flow of the communication rather than its accuracy. Accuracy is usually in study phase wherein the language is controlled by the teacher such drilling activities. On the other hand, fluency is usually part of the activate phase wherein scenarios are created by the teacher but the content of the language is not. These activities are free role plays, debates, simulations and many others.
