This unit consisted of two video samples of ESA model lesson plans being executed in a classroom. The first lesson showed an ineffective class and the second lesson showed a more effective class. In the first lesson the teacher didn't establish rapport with the students and the students were uncomfortable participating in the class. The teacher in the first lesson also used complex language not appropriate to the level of the students and explained the grammar point rapidly. The teacher in the first less lacked patience and rushed through instructions during the activate phase of the lesson. The second lesson was much more effective because the teacher began by building rapport with the students and was able to actively engage them with a game at the start of the lesson. The second lesson the teacher also explained the language point more clearly and drilled pronunciation. The teacher in lesson two used a worksheet that complimented his explanation on the board so that the students better understood the concept. The second lesson also had a strong activate phase; the teacher showed a demonstration of the finished product and the students were able to complete the activity mush easier than in the first lesson. In conclusion, I have a better idea of what an effective ESA lesson looks like and am more prepared to teach a class using the skills that I've learned in this unit.
