This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed teaching phonetics and pronunciation. I will admit, this unit was a difficult one; I never learned phonetics in school. However, I was quite excited for this unit when I saw it in the overview. All-in-all I learned a lot and would say that I am almost confident in being able to teach non-native English speakers. The tools given to me in this unit will help tremendously, especially the phonetic symbols chart.I thought this was a great lesson that explained fun and interesting tools to be used in the classroom. When I was younger, many of these devices werent available for student use. Now, it is incredible to think how much can be achieved with new technological resources. One of my favorites is the video camera - I think allowing students to hear themselves speak and see their strengths and weaknesses is an incredibly strong tool.
