The receptive skills unit taught us about reading and listening and how to get the students into a mood in which they're receptive to information and then maintain them there throughout the duration of the class.
This can be done by using topics that the students find interesting, pre-teaching vocabulary that will arise in the task and the use of none authentic texts.This lesson focused on the varying methodologies or ways to teach English to non-native speakers. The Engage activities given at the end of each lesson were very practical and helpful. My natural style of teaching is to lecture, since I enjoy speaking. However this lesson showed me the benefit of incorporating different Engage/Study/Activate sessions during my lessons.
