This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
What stuck out to me the most in this unit was the passive and active tones. In order for a native to fully comprehend what a non-native speaker is expressing, it helps when they are using the appropriate tone of voice. This also applies to the levels of formality. Tone and rhetoric should be changed depending on who the person is talking to, and it is important for the learners to know this at an early level. This unit really made me reflect on how I take the English language, grammar, for granted and how easy it is to forget that English is a difficult language with many language exceptions. I had to \"relearn\" many of the grammar rules I first learned 40+ years ago. This unit was also a wonderful exercise in empathy as I, the prospective teacher of English, was stumbling over grammar rules. It was very humbling.
