Reading and listening fall under the category of receptive skills. We use more than just our eyes and ears to read and listen. Two methods to improve student receptive skills are: pre-teach vocabulary and careful selection of text. Pre-teaching vocabulary will enable students to understand text better. Careful selection of text will ensure students are motivated to continue reading or listening to selected materials.In unit 9, we looked at structuring class lessons and the various parts to it. The main components of creating and writing lesson plans are flexibility, goals, revision and having variety and balance. Between these four parts we find the perfect combination and balance to optimize and balance out a successful lesson plan. As I have stated previously, the father we get into units the more real becoming a teacher feels.
