Although I am a native speaker--or perhaps because I am a native speaker--the distinction of how tense changes when reporting is difficult for me to answer quickly, and requires me to form an example sentence and see how I naturally changed it. Since this is difficult for me to do organically, practicing the skill is very useful in preparation for when a student asks me to explain a similar question.Teaching receptive skills in an effective way is necessary to keep students interested and enthused in the lesson because if the teacher uses topics that are not appealing to the whole class then the students will not be interested in the lesson. Changing up the topics over time should be important too. Also, pre-teaching is helpful because it allows the students to get a good feel of the vocabulary.
