This was a pretty simple unit explaining the pro's and con's of using a course book or generating your own materials. It is best when using a course book to supplement it by omitting or adjusting information enough to cater to the needs of the students. Course books can be good for evaluation and organization. They also have a balance of grammar and vocabulary. Creative material can be easier to target the specific needs of the students.This unit taught the importance of evaluating the students levels and progress and which tests to give to the students at the different stages of the course. There are different ways to assess a students language level which includes, tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. It is appropriate to give students tests at different stages of the course which include, placement test, diagnostic test, progress tests and practice tests.
