This unit was used to introduce techniques in teaching a new language. It gave lesson plan ideas for different ESA formats such as straight-arrow, patchwork or boomerang. This unit also explained what is important in terms of selecting new vocabulary words and introducing grammer. This unit appeared to be a building block to help the teacher know where to start in teaching their students.Unit 18 discussed modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. It expanded on grammar concerning all of these topics. The material also gave usage rules for each modal auxiliary verb and the degree of formality for certain ones. An example of the difference in formality would be 'may' being more polite and formal than the auxiliary word 'can' which is still polite, but much more informal.
