This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the many various methodologies that have been used for teaching English but mainly focused on the Engage, Study, and Activate (ESA) model which can incorporate elements from any of the main methodologies. In general, it seems that Communicative strategies with student-centered content and practice activities are most likely to keep things interesting and engaging for both the students and the teacher. Within the ESA approach, examples of Straight Arrow, Boomerang, and Patchwork lesson plans were explored. Also very useful were the many activity ideas for each stage of ESA lesson plans. I learned a lot from this unit and will likely refer back to it often as I begin teaching to find ideas for activities!
