This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
What I have learned from the CD/DVD part of this unit is that building rapport with the students is key. If you are not actively engaging with your students, then you will not gain control of them and keep them continually interested in learning more subject matter. When you have students who don't want to listen to you, the teacher needs to figure out a way to engage with them more. This lesson was very difficult. Even after having lived in the US for a year, intonation and word stress are nit natural to me. Especially the second half, phonology, is very interesting. Explaining and practising with young (Asian) learners might help them a lot. I will try to implement some of this into my classes, though I don't have the necessary time to put a bigger focus on it.
