This unit is about the different type of testing you can use to know the level of the students and where to place them accordingly. This is something I feel is usefull to know but it felt a bit weird for me to learn all about the different type's of language certificate's you can get and what each different certificate stands for. I don't think it will help me with teaching in any way and so it feels unnecessary to study them.The unit focuses on the receptive skills ? reading and listening. Predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context are different areas which make a difference when it comes to readers and listeners? understanding of the content. Teaching and learning of receptive skills involves pre-teaching vocabulary, careful selection of texts, different topics and tasks and stimulation of interest.
