This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered topics related to the receptive skills in using a language, which are reading and listening. The unit contains the reasons why students need these skills, which are mostly reading/listening for a purpose, or for entertainment. The unit also described how we put these skills to use: for skimming, scanning material, predicting, getting information from context, and for getting detailed information. I thought that this was a useful section, mostly because the receptive skills are often given the short shrift in having \"expertise\" in a language, perhaps because these are often hard to measure. However, knowing the meaning of a text or speech promotes understanding among people, sometimes more than speaking.
