Similar to the previous unit, this unit has made me consider how intake forms of language learning (that is, reading and listening), differ from output forms of language learning (that is, writing and speaking). It seems as though there is a significant confidence and comfort gap that needs to be overcome in order to get students to engage in output that is not present in getting students to read and listen in english.This unit covered practical ways to teach students proper pronunciation including the use of phonology. I learned a great deal about phonology as I had always seen the phonetic spellings of words in the dictionary and been confused by it. The parts of the English language that are more implicit such as stress on a particular word make intuitive sense to me but I can now see how difficult they could be to a new speaker.
